After completing his MBBS and Master of Surgery- MS (Orthopaedics)
from KEM Hospital and Seth G S Medical College, Mumbai; and being awarded a Gold Medal from the University of Mumbai, Dr Manoj Singrakhia fulfilled his dream of becoming a Spine surgeon by completing fellowships in the western world.
At Milwaukee, he did significant work on Vertebroplasty / Kyphoplasty (Singrakhia and Rao- JBJS, 2003) and biomechanical studies of the spine.
He was later selected for an Advanced Adult Spinal disorders and reconstruction fellowship at the University of Toronto, Canada. During this year of the fellowship he worked with eminent Neurosurgeons and Orthopaedic Spine surgeons gaining expertise in
- Lumbar Spine- Microdiscectomy, laminectomy, laminoplasty
- Cervical / craniovertebral anterior and posterior decompression & instrumentation
- Cervical and Lumbar Disc replacement
- Anterior/ posterior Lumbar fusion - PLIF and ALIF
- Spinal Tumors - Benign and Malignant
- Spinal Trauma
- Spinal Infection - TB
- Adult deformity correction.
The third year of the fellowship was at Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada treating patients with-
Klippel- Fiel syndrome and Congenital Scoliosis/ Kyphosis
Idiopathic infantile/ juvenile and Adolescent scoliosis
Congenital, Neuromuscular and Spina-bifida spinal pathologies CP child and Polio spinal deformity
On his return to India he was attached with the 850 bedded Bombay Hospital as a Consultant Spine surgeon. During this period he worked independently and in collaboration with Neurosurgeons and Orthopaedic surgeons to treat various spinal disorders. |
